Congrats to 2014 Illustration alumna A. Coffin on the release of her new book, Silence Chamber.

Based in Helsinki, Finland, Coffin is an interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on attention, silence, and connection to the earth. Her new publication is an extension of that practice.

Between 2022 and 2025, Coffin built a woven branch structure in a Finnish forest and hosted visitors for sensory, embodied experiences. The hand-written book weaves together journal fragments, poetic texts, and pencil sketches to capture the slow, tactile process of connecting with the land.

Co-designed with Antti Nylén and published by Bokeh, the work is composed of seven hand-bound booklets and an introductory text. It also features a practical guide to rituals that readers can use to engage with their own local forests.

It is rewarding to see Montserrat alumni continuing their practice by merging illustration, book design, and site-responsive art.
