The Montserrat Pre-College Program is for young artists who are ready to work hard, explore and expand their talent and potential, and have fun; this will be a summer you'll always remember.
enrollment
The Pre-College Program is designed specifically for high school students aged 16 years and older, and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend that you apply as early in the spring as possible to ensure your spot in the program.
scholarships
Limited tuition scholarships are available for the Pre-College Program and are based on financial need. The deadline to apply for financial assistance is April 24, and notification of scholarships is mailed May 24. Please be aware that we receive many requests for financial assistance and not all can be filled. It is recommended that you submit your application, request for financial assistance and portfolio of 5 samples of artwork as early as possible. Download the application on www.montserrat.edu
application requirements
You must send a completed application form with a non-refundable application fee of $40, and a letter of recommendation from your art instructor. In addition, applicants must also include an artist's statement of at least 300 words. Topics for your artist statement should include your artistic experiences and any artistic challenges you've faced up to this point, who or what has influenced your art, why you want to attend Montserrat's Pre-College Program, and what you intend to gain from your participation. Please send all materials together if possible to: Montserrat College of Art, Attn: Pre-College Program, 23 Essex Street, Beverly, MA 01915
All applications must be accompanied by a $40 non-refundable application fee; fees can be paid by check, money order, or credit card (Master Card, Visa, or American Express). Applications received without an application fee will not be processed. Once your application has been processed you will receive confirmation in the mail.
regulations
As in any community living situation, there are rules and regulations. Montserrat College of Art is substance and alcohol free, and all apartments are smoke free, with no exceptions. Students residing at the college are expected to be reasonable and respectful, keep noise at a low level, and think before acting. The Resident Assistants will review all the rules and regulations with the students on the first day on campus. To be eligible for housing students must be 16 years of age or older. Once a student is registered in the program, an information packet containing the specific rules and regulations as well as what to bring, maps of town and campus, activity and class schedules, and housing assignments are mailed out. We offer campus visits throughout the year; please call for an appointment.
safety
Montserrat is located in a safe, suburban location one block from downtown. As in all locations, students should exercise common sense and take precautions to ensure safety. The university has 24 hour on campus security. Pre-college staff are on campus from 8:00 am until the 10:00 pm curfew and live only minutes away for evening emergencies. Resident Assistants reside in each apartment with Pre-college students. The Beverly Police Department headquarters is two blocks from our campus and makes regular patrols in our neighborhood. Each student is required to send a copy of their medical insurance prior to the start of the program should a doctor visit or medical emergency arise. Pre-College students use the buddy system, allowing them to explore the town and its environs safely. All students are required to arrive on campus with a cell phone and input Staff and RA cell numbers for safe communication at all times.
notice of non-discrimination
Montserrat College of Art does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, or handicap in admission to, access to, treatment of, or employment in its programs and activities.
