dean's welcome

Montserrat College of Art is a relatively young college, founded in 1970, as a strong, closely knit community of artists and educators who are dedicated to a personalized approach to arts education.

We boast a rich curriculum with 10 different concentrations, including the option to design your own, and four capstone seminars where you develop a body of work or a professional portfolio. We're proud of the rigor of our instruction, but with small classes and a student-centered faculty, we are also supportive and inclusive. Finally we pride ourselves on the diversity of work that emerges from our studios and classrooms. There is no one Montserrat style, viewpoint or road to success.

We concentrate a great deal on how to help students be successful. At Montserrat, students are guided through course work by professional artists, writers and scholars with active practices outside the classroom. Supplementing that, are a series of visiting artists, curators, and arts professionals who come to campus weekly.  Through their example, you develop a deep understanding of what you can be and how you might apply your creativity to a life of art.

All Montserrat students gain real-world experience through their required internship, and each one participates in Beyond Montserrat, a comprehensive program of lectures, workshops and skill-building to prepare you for life after college. In the end, Montserrat produces graduates who are confident, creative problem-solvers, who think independently and apply their education to a wide range of careers.

I hope you'll feel comfortable emailing me or any of the program chairs, if you have questions about our offerings.
